Outdoor Wreaths: How to Make a Pussy Willow Wreath

Outdoor wreaths are perfect options to brighten your front door or an outdoor wall that needs softening. Spring has already arrived and reminds us that time has come to make some outdoor wreaths! Pussy willows offer the first touch of spring with their sweet, fuzzy buds. Bringing them indoors is a treat but turning them into long-lasting door wreaths is a treat that you can enjoy all year around.

Directions for Making a Pussy Willow Wreath

  1. Collect fresh or faux pussy willow branches with buds showing nice, silvery fur from your backyard or buy from your local florist or farmer’s market. The branches should be kept out of water. Otherwise, the buds will open and the bloom will not last long.
  2. Remove the leaves from the branches and use the garden shears to cut them into 7-inch pieces. Separate them into six bundles.
  3. Take one bundle, form a fan shape with the branches, and place them along a portion of the wreath form. Be careful that the bottom of the branches point inside.
  4. Secure the bundle to the wreath frame with floral wire.
  5. Now, take the second bundle and secure it right below the first bundle in the similar fashion. Remember to secure it in a way so that it hides the wires of the first bundle.
  6. Repeat this process until the entire bundle is covered. Use the extra branches (if you have any) for filling in openings.
  7. Make a 6-inch loop of wire and attach it to the frame for hanging.

Outdoor Pussy Willow Wreath Ideas:

Pussy willow wreaths are a favorite choice during the spring. The silvery-white wooly buds make a connection between the winter and spring seasons beautifully besides making charming outdoor wreaths, lasting for months to come. As the wreaths will last for a long time, you can use them through other seasons just by adding ornaments or a colorful bow.

During this season, nature is going to give you many resources that you can use for your wreath making projects. Apart from making these spring wreaths, you can also make some twig wreaths by collecting twigs from your own yard or from fallen branches found through the woods or by ordering online.
