How to Make a Natural Dried Fruit Wreath

A dried fruit wreath is probably one of the easiest-to-make winter wreaths, which don’t require any complex crafting skill but turn out to be a brilliant decorative piece for your home. All you need to make this wreath is some fruits, a free afternoon, and a bit of creative flair.

Dried Fruit Wreath Materials:

A variety of brightly colored fruit(oranges, lemons, apples, pears, etc.)

A wicker wreath or grapevine wreath

Floral wire or Kitchen String

Upholstery needle

Colored ribbon

Dried Fruit Wreath Directions:

1. Without peeling, cut the fruit into slices in a way so that each slice has almost the similar shape and thickness.
2. Place the fruit slices on a cookie rack on top of a cookie sheet. Bake for 5/6 hours at 150 degrees. Take them out when the slices are clearly dry. Baking the whole fruit will take almost twice the time.
3. If you want to save energy, use a food dehydrator that will dehydrate the fruits by taking half of the time.
4. Leave the slices and the whole fruits for several hours to let them cool.
5. Compose the wreath around the wicker wreath form by using the upholstery needle and kitchen string. Remember to run the needle closer to the rind instead of in the middle.
6. If you want to use whole fruits into your wreath, use a darning needle or a skewer to poke a hole and use floral wire or garden wire to run through them.
7. Arrange the slices of fruits and the whole fruits the way you like.

Use a Ribbon as the Wreath Hanger:

A dried fruit wreath is not that much heavy. So, tying a ribbon to it in the shape of a bow can function as a nice wreath hanger. Otherwise, you can buy a metal or plastic wreath hanger.

1. Boiling the fruit slices for a couple of minutes will prevent them from rotting or turning discolored.
2. Keep the fruits under the sun or near something hot for several days if they are not completely dry after baking.

What about a bit of fruit decorations? Assorted slices of different types of fruits can be used for amazing decorations. You can make garlands by passing a floral wire through the slices. Decorate your mantel, kitchen, or bathroom with them and see how the entire space is filled with sweet fragrance. In case if you are using only citrus fruits, you can keep the garlands and wreaths for several years given that the fruit slices are completely dry.
